Letter to Parents
Dear Parent,
For students who struggle in or may not like writing I want to help them learn how it can become enjoyable and not a chore. For students who are already talented writers I want to help them expand their horizons and find their creative voice.
In my classes, I will always keep a small group of students (no more than four)
at once so individual attention can always be given. If more than four sign up for each course, I will provide more than one session to keep numbers small. I will also offer individual tutoring sessions but encourage signing up for the group prep courses because reading peer’s writing is highly informative to the individual. In the courses we will have writing partners or groups in which each other’s writing can be read and suggestion given (with my supervision). This is an exercise I experienced in my Creative Writing class and found to be extremely informative to me as a writer.
I am graduating this spring from Juanita High School with a goal to pursue a doctorate degree in English Education. I have taken honors English classes from 7th to 10th grade and AP Language in 11th grade and AP Literature in 12th grade along with a Creative Writing Elective. On the AP Language exam last year I scored a 4. I also scored a 36 (perfect) on the reading section of the ACT and a 30 (better than 93% of the nation) on the English portion. Through my high school English experiences I have found the key to write well and enjoy writing well. Although my goal of teaching is something to be fulfilled in the future, I would love to begin pursuing that now by offering tutoring for students.
My goal is not only to share my bag of tricks to writing a good and stand-out essay, but also to show students how to make all their writing assignments fun, no matter what kind of a student or personality they are.
